COVID update — 1,395 new cases statewide

New coronavirus cases reached just shy of 1,400 Thursday morning.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,395 new cases and 19 new deaths statewide, including one death from an Oct. 1 death certificate report.

Eleven new cases were reported in Lincoln County.

The county now has recorded 1,746 positive cases of the virus and 64 confirmed deaths.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the state has recorded 138,791 positive virus cases and 3,619 deaths. More than 114,000 cases and 3,195 deaths are confirmed from coronavirus-related issues, while 23,903 cases and 424 deaths are probable coronavirus-related.

MSDH presumes 116,683 of those cases have recovered as of Sunday.

Hospitalizations for the novel virus are up to 821 statewide, rising steadily from 680 hospitalizations reported Monday morning and the highest in weeks. Intensive care units held 207 of these patients, with 96 on ventilators. Another 127 people were hospitalized with suspected COVID-19 infections.

Testing

Testing is available in Brookhaven at King’s Daughters Medical Center. The COVID screening site is located behind the Emergency Room and will be open to the public 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m-2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Call 601-835-9455 to make an appointment.

Testing is also available for those without insurance, on Mondays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. outside the Lincoln County Health Department, 1212 Northpark Lane NE, Brookhaven. Interested persons should call 601-496-7200 before arriving. Testing is also available this week Wednesday-Friday.
