Household hazardous waste will be accepted for disposal at the Lincoln County Unit Barn Saturday.
Today, Lincoln County is hosting a hazardous waste drop off event free to the public. The event will be at 1211 Old Hwy. 51 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The following items will be accepted for disposal: paint, aerosols, cleaners, ammonia, anti-freeze, batteries, brake fluid, chlorine bleach, pool chemicals, glass cleaner, disinfectants, drain opener, furniture polish, gasoline, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, tub and tile cleaner, water seal, wood finish, fertilizers, lighter fluid, paint thinner, tires, fluorescent light bulbs, electronic waste, used motor oil and propane cylinders.
The following items will not be accepted: explosives, radioactive materials, items containing PCBs, syringes, ammunition, laboratory chemicals and prescription drugs.
Also, no commercial waste will be allowed for disposal.
Lincoln County Solid Waste Coordinator Bob Knight hopes residents will take advantage of this free event.
“By doing this, we can keep our roadsides clear and keep hazardous materials out of our creeks,” Knight said. “We have a lot of issues with that.”
As part of his job with Keep Lincoln County Beautiful, the area’s beautification effort, Knight sees a lot of dumping that shouldn’t happen.
“They’ll throw everything in the creek,” Knight said.
Knight said the purpose of this event is to help Lincoln County be cleaner.
“We can get rid of hazardous materials and put them where they should go, so our children and animals aren’t exposed to it,” Knight said. “It’s about making Lincoln County a beautiful place to live.”
