After a brief investigation at the scene of the crime, officers determined they were looking for three suspects. Malcolm Jawara Tyler is currently in custody, but Anton Trebien and Antowonna Shcree Jones are still at large.

“They are believed to be outside of the jurisdiction of Brookhaven but possibly in Mississippi,” Detective Clint Earls said. “Us and the U.S. Marshalls are currently searching for them. They are considered to be armed and dangerous.”

The motive of the homicide is currently unknown.

“We believe it was a robbery,” said Police Chief Kenneth Collins said.

Anyone with information on the locations of Trebien and Shcree are asked to call the Brookhaven Police Department at 601-833-2424 or CrimeStoppers at 601-823-0150.

On Wednesday night, Joey Jermaine Quarles was shot twice in the chest area. He was taken to surgery at King’s Daughters Medical Center. According to Collins, Quarles is still in the hospital at this time.

Collins said the shooting happened due to a breakup that occurred.

“It was all family members, the shooting on that Wednesday night,” Collins said. “Then other people got involved and it turned into something it didn’t need to be.”

Hakeem Trimel and Lorenzo Darnell Smith Jr., both of whom  were involved and suffered gunshot injuries, have been arrested for aggravated assault. Jonah Hill and Javian Mackabee also suffered gunshot wounds, but none of the injuries were life threatening.

“We’re just waiting for everything to come up in court,” Collins said.
