Jan. 23 in Wesson will be a night of good food, networking and recognition.

The Wesson Chamber of Commerce will hold its 27th annual banquet at the Thames Center at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

“We have a good banquet,” Chamber President Janet Currie said. “We have quite a few people that came last year. We’ve had good speakers.”

Currie said talks are ongoing and the Chamber was not yet ready to announce this year’s speaker.

The Wesson Chamber’s banquet is a big deal for the town. More than 140 people attended last year’s event, including local and state politicians, business owners and educators.

“We will also have a comment from Mayor Alton Shaw and (Co-Lin President) Dr. Jane Hulon,” Currie said. “She always lets us know what Co-Lin is doing. She was very enthusiastic about some of the changes they made, so she aways gives us that.”

During the banquet, the chamber will present seven awards recognizing exceptional businesses, educators and public servants in the community. A new board of directors will also be presented at the banquet.

Tickets for the banquet are $20 and can be purchased at Trustmark National Bank at 1027 Spring St. and Another Time Another Place at 1024 Spring St.

Currie said tickets should be purchased by Jan. 20.
