When is holiday garbage pickup in Brookhaven?

Q: When will the city pick up garbage for the holidays?
A:Workers with Arrow Disposal Service will be off Christmas and New Year’s Day. The schedule for garbage pick-up will be moved back one day. Wednesday’s garbage pick-up will be moved to Thursday, and so on.
City residents can also take advantage of dumpsters marked “City of Brookhaven.” According to Public Works Director Keith Lewis, the dumpsters will be put out Monday and stay out until the following Monday.
The city stressed that residents should only place secured bags of household garbage in the dumpsters and not recyclables, yard trash, mattresses or other kinds of furniture. Yard trash — leaves, pine straw and sticks — should be piled up by the road, and not placed in road-side garbage bags.
“All our debris goes to a certain spot in the landfill, and we cannot have any kind of plastic,” Lewis said. “We would have to dump every bag.”
Lewis did say it was acceptable to put bagged yard trash in garbage cans, as long as they fit.
Because pickup times can vary, the city would also like to remind residents to place their garbage out the night before. Workers can begin picking up garbage as early as 4 a.m.
