Mayor: Deputy shot in the head, another wounded in chase

CANTON (AP) — Two deputies in Mississippi have been wounded including one who a mayor says was shot in the head.
News outlets report the shooting happened after a chase that ended outside of Canton on Thursday morning. Canton Mayor William Truly says the suspect was also shot and is in custody at a hospital. Truly says the city’s fire chief told him about the incident.
The deputy who was reportedly shot in the head has been airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Authorities haven’t released the condition or location of the second deputy who was injured.
Authorities also haven’t said what prompted the chase and shooting.
