A teenager died following a one-car collision near his home Tuesday night.

Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris said Clayton Golden, 15, was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle. Golden was wearing a seat belt, he said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred just before 9:30 p.m. on Hunters Road, one to two miles from Hwy. 583, said Sheriff Steve Rushing. Golden was driving home in a 2001 Chevy Silverado truck about a quarter mile from home when it appears the vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the road on the left and hit a tree, Rushing said. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

Golden had been a student at Enterprise Attendance Center, but was in a homeschool program this year, McMorris said.

Enterprise Principal Terry Brister said many students learned of Golden’s death Wednesday morning. A counselor was available to students, teachers and administrators if anyone wanted to talk through their grief with someone.
