The Rotary Club of Brookhaven-Lincoln County on Thursday will host Bobby McDaniel, one of the first rescuers at the site of the Lynyrd Skynyrd crash in 1977.
McDaniel will talk about the night the plane carrying the band crashed in Gillsburg. Founding member Ronnie Van Zant, guitar player and singer Steve Gaines and backing singer Cassie Gaines were killed, along with several others.
McDaniel will also speak to the club about efforts to construct a monument to be unveiled next month near the crash site.
The Rotary Club meets at noon at Poppa’s Buffet & Grill. Cost of lunch is $12.50. For more information or to RSVP, contact Rotary president Pat Nelson at 901-493-9393.
