A one-vehicle crash Saturday night fatally injured a Bogue Chitto man and sent his wife to the hospital, authorities said.
James Buffington, 55, of Lee Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene on County Farm Lane, Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris said.
Buffington, the only passenger, was ejected from the vehicle, he said.
The wreck happened around 10 p.m. on County Farm Lane just outside the Brookhaven city limits, said Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing.
The victim’s wife, 71-year-old Gloria Buffington, was driving a 2008 Chevy HHR west on County Farm Lane when it appears the station wagon ran off the side of the road and flipped, Rushing said. Firefighters with the Brookhaven Fire Department used an extrication device to cut her out of the vehicle and she was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where she was treated and later released, McMorris said.
Rushing said it is not known if speed was a factor in the crash. It does not appear alcohol was a factor. The incident remains under investigation by the LCSO.
