The Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves begin MACJC State Tournament play today at Jones College in Ellisville. Co-Lin plays Gulf Coast at noon. The Lady Wolves (27-14) are the six seed and Gulf Coast (30-12) is seeded third. In the regular season the teams met in Perkinston March 20. GC won game one 8-0 before coach Meleah Howard and her crew bounced back for a split with a 5-2 win in game two. Freshman Katelyn Hayman (Clinton High) leads CL with a .375 average at the plate. Sophomore Julie Sheuermann (Destrehan, Louisiana) has a team-high 31 RBIs. Sophomore Harmoni Ashley (Wesson High) is second with 27 runs driven in. Hayman has a team-high 42 hits and is followed closely by sophomore Callie Fortenberry (Lawrence County) with 41 hits. Freshman Kaytlon Ward (Grant, Louisiana) has thrown a team-high 144.2 innings in the circle and is 14-9 with a 1.55 earned runs average. The state tournament is double elimination and runs through Saturday. Co-Lin will broadcast the game on colinathletics.com.
