WESSON (AP) — A Louisiana high school music teacher has been killed in a car crash in Mississippi.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol tells news outlets in a statement 52-year-old Lesli Wood died Monday at the scene of the collision.
The patrol says Wood had stopped on I-55 in Copiah County to help the driver of a truck that flipped off the road. Wood, her vehicle, and several other cars were struck by a semitractor-trailer as she was returning to her vehicle. Two people were taken to a hospital with injuries.
East Baton Rouge Parish Schools Superintendent Warren Drake says Wood was a longtime teacher at Baton Rouge Magnet High School. School officials say in a statement Wood was a beloved performing arts instructor.
Authorities investigating the crash closed I-55 south near Wesson.
