MENDENHALL (AP) — An administrator says a Mississippi school district is investigating a noose that was found in a school cafeteria.
In a statement posted to the Simpson County School District website Monday, Superintendent Greg Paes says “this type of incident is not tolerated in any of the schools.” He says once the person who placed the noose is found, “they will be handled according to our policies and procedures,” although he did not specify what those are.
Paes did not immediately return a call to The Associated Press on Tuesday.
Simpson County is 63 percent white and 35 percent black, which nearly reflects Mississippi as a whole.
