Vacation is a good thing … so is home

I just returned from the longest vacation I have ever taken — three weeks in Sicily. I traveled throughout the region marveling at the stunning views, wonderful food and friendly people. There were many highlights during my trip but the botanic gardens, farmers markets, citrus and olive orchards and vineyards were naturally my favorites.
I went to a rock concert and Italian opera in the oldest Greek amphitheater in the world. I got to see Mt. Etna erupt on the final evening of my trip. I swam in the bluest water I have ever seen.
Vacation is a good thing but coming home is too. I missed my family, friends, dog, house and work. When I drove home from the airport I was happy to see the green pastures and miles of trees. Sicily is beautiful but so is Mississippi.
Maybe that’s what a vacation should be about. Seeing places that are different but giving you a greater appreciation of home. Home is a good thing.
