Lady Wolves get first tennis win of the season

The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves captured their first win of the season over the East Central Lady Warriors 7-2.
“The girls won two tough doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3, and Carmen (Manicea) pulled through at No. 2 singles,” said Lady Wolves coach Brenda Smith. “The Clark twins led the team with convincing wins in singles and doubles.”
The Lady Wolves swept all three doubles matches. Ximena Daza and Carmen Manicea defeated Gabriella Gomez and Tatiana Quinonez 8-6 at No. 1, Katy and Kara Clark took care of Alex Tindall and Caylee Yarborough 8-1, and Faith Bergeron and Ashlyn Locke took the win over EC’s Julia Johnston and Mazella 8-6.
In singles action, the Lady Wolves won four of six matches. At No. 1 singles, Daza defeated Gomez 6-1, 6-1. Manicea took care of Quinonez 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2. Katy Clark defeated Tindall 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3, and Kara Clark beat Yarborough 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4.
East Central’s Wellerman defeated Locke in a tiebreaker 6-0, 2-6, 10-3 at No. 5 and Johnston beat Madison Franklin 6-1, 6-4.
The Lady Wolves will host the Meridian Lady Eagles on Saturday, Feb. 24, beginning at 11 a.m.
