PONTOTOC (AP) — A second grand jury has decided not to indict a driver who fatally struck a Mississippi student in 2016.
News outlets reported Monday that District Attorney John Weddle said the grand jury deliberated and declined to indict on either charge. They were informed of both the state’s manslaughter law and Nathan’s Law, dealing with injuries incurred by passing a stopped school bus.
Seven-year-old Amiya Braxton had just stepped off the bus when she was struck by the driver in 2016.
The parents said that they are still looking into other options to pursue criminal charges against the driver.
