Wesson runs by Crystal Springs

The Wesson Cobras thrashed the Crystal Springs Tigers Friday night at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, ending the first game of the season with an impressive final score of 32-12.
Senior Dale Thigpen proved he could successfully transition from running back to quarterback and played well under the lights at Co-Lin.
In the first quarter, Wesson scored on a punt return touchdown, but couldn’t convert the extra point attempt to take the early 6-0 lead.
A hand-off to sophomore Damien Smith ended with a six-yard touchdown run with a successful point-after attempt with 6:55 left on the clock. The Cobras ended the quarter with 13 points without Crystal Springs putting any points on the board.
In the second quarter, Thigpen ran for a two-yard touchdown but the extra point attempt was no good, bumping up the Cobras lead to 19-0.
The Tigers of Crystal Springs put more points on the scoreboard with a 47-yard run by junior Tadorious Davis.
With a minute left until halftime, Wesson’s JaQuavion Harris scored for the Cobras on a 94-yard run with a successful point after attempt. Going into the half, Wesson held a 26-6 lead over Crystal Springs with that score at a standstill throughout the third quarter.
Crystal Springs scored on a 100-yard interception with 3:29 left on the clock, but the two-point conversion was no good. Wesson scored on a 65-yard kickoff return by Thigpen but missed the two extra points.
They ended the game 32-12.
The Cobras head to Sumrall Friday to take on the Bobcats. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Crystal Springs plays Florence at home Friday with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
