The mayor and the Brookhaven Board of Alderman accepted the Brookhaven Planning Commission’s application for a special use district for Edgewood Mansion, located on 412 Storm Avenue. This will allow for more flexibility in development.
The board defines a special use district as a recreational district that includes active and passive activities such as neighborhood centers, parks and playgrounds, swimming pools, picnic areas and other related uses and is consistent with the intent of the recent buyer of the property.
Jeff Cross recently bought the mansion and has plans to repair the residence for use as an event center for weddings, receptions and community functions.
Aldermen approved a waiver of the three-acre requirement for a special use district. The existing 1.22 acres was deemed sufficient for the previous owner’s use as an event center. The board sees the special use permit as a major key to ensure the renovations of Edgewood.
