Wesson makes road plan

Wesson wants to pave some roads and is thinking about making it a DIY project.
Mayor Alton Shaw told the Wesson aldermen Tuesday it might be cheaper to do the job themselves.
“We’re currently looking into paving our own roads, us buying the equipment and doing it ourselves,” he said after the meeting. “We figured if we had our own equipment on hand, we could start filling small patches and eventually start doing roads here and there.”
The town plans to purchase a paving machine and a roller.
“We had a lot of surplus equipment that we don’t need anymore,” Shaw said. “We put them out for public bid and we raised about $10,000. So we can flip that money around and put it into the equipment we’re looking to buy.”
Aldermen also discussed splash pad addition to Wesson Park. “We looked around at different companies and the cheapest company we found to do a splash pad was going to be $50,000 and it was going to have eight nozzles. That just seemed outrageous,” Shaw said. “We talked to a supplier and ended up spending $12,000 and are going to have 23 to 24 different nozzles.”
The next meeting of the Wesson Board of Aldermen will be held June 6 at 6 p.m. across the street from the Wesson Town Hall because of election night.
