Decator Rushing

Funeral services for Decator Rushing, of Brookhaven, will be Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) at 11 a.m. with burial in the Lucien Baptist Church Cemetery in Lucien. Bro. Kent Cochran will officiate the services.

Visitation will be tosday, March 21, 2017, from 5 until 8 p.m., and Wednesday, March 22, 2017, from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Mr. Rushing, 68, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born Jan. 6, 1949, in Brookhaven, to Luther and Lila Smith Rushing.

He was a member of Lucien Baptist Church, worked for many years as a construction worker and was a member of the John A. Quitman Lodge #244. He enjoyed farming, gardening and spending time with his grandkids. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Laurie Rushing Sisco; infant brother; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Seleta Kennedy.

Survivors are his wife of 49 1/2 years, Sarah Kennedy Rushing; daughter, Mandy Rushing Burris of Brookhaven; son, Brad Rushing of Brookhaven; sisters, Lena Smith, Betty Jean Hughes, Frances Mullins, Patsy Nations and Diane Little; brothers, Versie Rushing and Donald Ray Rushing; brother-in-law, Steve Kennedy; sister-in-law, Julia Richardson; grandchildren, Jaimee, Lillianne, Savannah, Lucas, Kolby, Cameron, Sarah, Jared and Monica; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hospice Compassus.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Rushing’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
