Loyd Star area news: Harris and LC school reunions
Published 8:19 am Monday, March 20, 2017
Greetings, readers. Lamentations 3:21-22 and 25 and Romans 15:13 speak to mankind about the power of having hope in Christ. They read: “This I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him.” “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the peace of the Holy Spirit.”
Eva H. Harris and Lincoln County Schools’ alumni are preparing for their upcoming 11th school reunion, to be held July 14-16, 2017, in Brookhaven. This reunion will start on Friday, July 14, at 7 p.m. at Lincoln Civic Center, located on Beltline Road, east of Brookhaven.
On Saturday morning, July 15, the parade will be held in downtown Brookhaven with former students, teachers and special guests. The committee is inviting all who would like to participate in this parade to do so. There is no charge for participation. For further information, contact any of the alumni committee members as soon as possible. Old cars, motorbikes, businesses, clubs, organizations and others are invited to participate.
The class of 1966 will be honored for their 50th anniversary that was celebrated in 2016, and the class of 1967 who will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. Both classes will have representatives in the parade as the Grand Marshalls. The entire class will also be honored by riding in the parade as a group. Each class is encouraged to have a float if it is possible, but if not a decorated vehicle will be sufficient. Two former teachers will be in the parade on Saturday morning: Mrs. Celess Barnes McEwen will be the Senior Grand Marshall and Mrs. Augustine Tillman Buie will be the Honorary Grand Marshall.
The committee has chosen to meet on the following days to continue to prepare for this reunion: April 20 at 6 p.m. the group will meet at the Jimmy Furlow building on First Street in Brookhaven; May 2, June 6 and July 6, the committee will meet at the public library at 6 p.m. All former students and teachers are encouraged to come to these important meetings. There are two meetings scheduled for after the school reunion on Sept. 19 and Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. at the library.
I hope that the teachers, students, board members, central office staff, cafeteria staff, bus drivers and all others who have a spring break have a wonderful, restful and a blessed time.
It is time for the spring revivals to start around the county and each church would like to invite you to attend. Damascus Church will have theirs starting Monday through Wednesday, April 10 – 12.
