Rep. Becky Currie takes pro-Russia position

Apparently, Rep. Becky Currie of Brookhaven was not in favor of President Obama’s sanctions against Russia in retaliation for the country’s interference in the presidential election.
She tweeted recently: “Shouldn’t Obama have to prove Russia melded (sic) in our election before he can sanction them? Revengeful and sad. Sore loser!”
That’s a classic Donald Trump tweet if ever there was one.
But here’s the problem with her logic: U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia’s goal was to help Donald Trump win. CIA Director John Brennan has said the intelligence community is in agreement that Russia tried to interfere in the U.S. presidential election, though there’s no evidence Moscow succeeded in helping Trump win, The Associated Press reported.
Isn’t it enough that they tried? Shouldn’t we sanction a country that attempted to influence our election? Fair elections are the bedrock of our democracy and should be protected from countries that seek to meddle in them.
That Trump and some Republicans are suddenly nonchalant about the integrity of elections is certainly odd (while campaigning Trump repeatedly warned of a “rigged” election).
It was Republicans who championed the use of identification at the polls as a way to protect the integrity of elections. Those same Republicans are now fine with Russia trying to influence elections.
It is so far beyond hypocrisy it’s laughable.
