George F. Higdon

Funeral services for George F. Higdon, of Brookhaven, will be Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) at 11 a.m. with burial at the Rosehill Cemetery in Brookhaven. Bro. Chris DeGeorge and Bro. Ryan Thurman will officiate the services.

Visitation will be today, Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, from 5 until 7 p.m. and will continue Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Higdon, 89, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, with his loving family by his side. He was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Lincoln County, to George H. and Bessie Felder Higdon. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Wesson. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II; was a member of the Brookhaven Masonic Lodge No 241 and enjoyed his dogs and spending time with his family. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Lolita Newman Higdon.

Survivors are his sons, George L. Higdon, of Brookhaven, and Burrell L. Higdon and wife Kim, of Greenville, South Carolina; daughter, Betty Benton, of Crystal Springs; grandchildren, James Higdon, Michelle Higdon, Daniel Higdon, Curtis Benton and wife Jennifer, and Darrell Benton and wife Toni; three great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers are Jan Ray Prather, Wayne Brown, Phillip Case, Wayne Foster, Gordon Redd and Danny Sisco.
