Enterprise loses 44-8 at home to Mount Olive

It was clear from the start that the Mount Olive running game and defense would be too much for Enterprise to handle.
The Pirates scored at will as they beat the YellowJackets at home Friday 44-8, giving them their first loss of the season.
Despite getting off to a slow start, the Pirates scored first on a 30-yard rushing touchdown by Latravious McNair.
The Pirates’ defense imposed their will out of the gate, forcing the YellowJackets into several punting situations. With 2:54 left in the first quarter, the YellowJackets put the
Pirates into a fourth and goal on the one-yard line. The Pirates elected to go for it, and scored on a one-yard sneak by McNair, taking a 12-0 lead in the process.
In the second quarter, the YellowJackets’ defense showed a spark of life, forcing the Pirates into another fourth and long.
Mount Olive elected to go for it again, but the YellowJackets’ defense denied the Pirates.
A costly mistake on the ensuing drive from the YellowJackets’ special teams unit saw the ball sail over the head of their punter, resulting in a safety for the Pirates to put the score at 14-0 in favor of Mount Olive. With 5:25 left in the first half, McNair broke away from the YellowJackets’ defense and ran for a 25-yard touchdown to make the score 21-0.
The Pirates’ defense picked up where it left off at halftime, forcing the YellowJackets into a another fourth down. The YellowJackets elected to go for it, however the Pirates’ defense would deny them the first down.
The Pirates capitalized on a recovered fumble as they scored again with 7:05 left in the third quarter. McNair connected with Zae Tatum for a 30-yard receiving touchdown to give the Pirates a 28-0 lead going into the final quarter.
The Pirates scored quickly in the fourth quarter, as Paris Fairley punched it in from one yard out with 11:19 on the clock. The YellowJackets would get their only score of the night with 9:07 left in the game, when Darren Richardson busted lose for a 53-yard touchdown.
The Pirates would notch the final score of the night with eight minutes left on the clock on a 45-yard rushing touchdown by Deshaun Price.
“We set the pace with our running game and our defense and our defense played physical and executed,” Mount Olive’s head coach Dante Durr said.
“Mount Olive wanted to win more than we did. They played harder and faster,” Enterprise’s coach Brooks Burns said.
The Jackets were paced on offense by Darren Richardson 95 yards rushing and one touchdown. Brady Williams and Tanner Waldrop added 27 and 17 yards, respectively.
Devon Kirtfield had 12 total tackles to lead the Jackets with Danny Thomas adding seven. Austin Boyte and Brant White each had six tackles.
Enterprise will head to Clarksdale this week looking to return to form.
