Newman’s Feb. 26 indictment said that he conspired with Tristen Toby Dillion to commit burglary. According to the indictment, Newman and Dillion broke into Mamie Martin Elementary School July 12, 2015, by forcing open an outer door or window with the intent to steal.

Newman was sentenced Monday to one year of house arrest and five years probation, according to Lincoln County Circuit Clerk Dustin Bairfield. He will also be required to pay restitution to the Brookhaven School District and a $2,000 fine.

Bairfield said Newman will be sent to a restitution center if he is unable to pay restitution by the time his house arrest is complete. Failure to meet the terms of house arrest will lead to a sentence of six years in prison, Bairfield said.

Dillion was also listed under the indictment, but his trial has not yet concluded. His omnibus hearing is scheduled for Sept. 8, according to court dockets.
