Brookhaven reminds us of Mayberry

Though we don’t live in Mayberry anymore, Brookhaven certainly reminded us of the fictional town recently.

It seems a Daily Leader employee inadvertently left our entrance door unlocked when leaving for the day. That could have certainly been a disaster, but thanks to the Brookhaven Police Department it was not.

Though we didn’t realize it before this incident, the police regularly check the front doors of businesses downtown to make sure they are locked and secure. Anyone who’s watched “The Andy Griffith Show” surely remembers Andy and Barney doing the same thing in downtown Mayberry.

It’s reassuring to know that the police are vigilant when it comes to the security of local businesses. The two officers who notified us of our unlocked door were courteous and professional, and we’d like to thank them for their efforts.

Another thing was made clear to us as well following this incident — Brookhaven, generally speaking, remains a safe, quiet city. Our front door was unlocked for several hours but nothing was taken, nothing was disturbed.
