Wesson recognizes athletes at banquet

WESSON – The Wesson Cobras honored basketball, fastpitch softball, baseball, tennis, soccer, golf and track athletes at a banquet recently.

In boys’ basketball, Anthony Jones received the Most Valuable Player, Best Rebounder and Most Valuable Offensive Player awards. Jermaine James earned the Most Valuable Defensive Player award. In girls’ basketball, Aurianna Vaughn earned the Most Valuable Offensive Player award. Alaysha Vaughn captured the Most Valuable Defensive Player award. Jashia Smith was named the Best Rebounder.

In boys’ soccer, Marcus Jones was selected as the Most Valuable Player. Dylan Ingle earned the Most Valuable Offensive Player award. Fidel Mellado received the Most Valuable Defensive Player award.

In girls’ soccer, Cheyenne Gladden and Harmoni Ashley were recognized as Co-Most Valuable Defensive Players. Kimberly San took home the Most Valuable Offensive Player award. Amber Brinson captured the overall Most Valuable Player.

In tennis, Maya Granger and Devin Wallace were chosen as the Most Valuable Players.

Carrie McSweyn and Kyle Holloway earned the Most Valuable Player honors in golf.

Dale Thigpen captured the Most Valuable Player award in track.

In baseball, Jeremy Smith received the Most Valuable Player award. Alex Mooney was recognized as the Best Defensive Player. Jimmie McQuage received the Best Offensive Player award.

In fastpitch softball, Amber Brinson was selected as the Most Valuable Player. Shelbi Maxwell captured the Best Offensive Player honors and Harmoni Ashley received the Best Defensive Player award.

In other special awards, Cheyenne Gladden and Peyton Burns earned the Dennis White Award. Davion Frye and Harmoni Ashley captured the Cobra Award. Jamarcus Patterson earned the Colby Porter Memorial Scholarship award. Justin Hynum and Kaitlyn Smith were the recipients of the Scholastic Award.
