Richton beats Enterprise

The Enterprise Jackets’ season came to an end Saturday when they fell to the Richton Rebels 3-2 in the second game in a playoff series at Richton.

In Friday’s contest, Enterprise suffered a tough 3-1 loss in the opening round of the Class 2A state baseball playoffs.

The Jackets, coached by Cass Brister, concluded the season with a 13-10 record overall.

Richton 3, Enterprise 1

The Jackets and Rebels battled in a scoreless contest in the first three innings, until Richton managed to take control of the contest in the fourth with two runs. The Rebels would add another run in the fifth inning to secure a 3-0 lead.

The Jackets would score their only run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Clayton Cooper was the winning pitcher on the mound for Richton. He gave up four hits, had six strikeouts and two walks.

Landon Gartman had a solid performance on the rubber for Enterprise. He had nine strikeouts, no walks and hit one batter.

Tanner Waldrop, Cade Cangemi, Landon Gartman and Jeffrey Daniels paced the Jackets with a single each.

Tommy Kidd was the top hitter for the Rebels with a double. Noah Mills, Clay Cooper, Clyde Earwood, Bailey Cobb and Marty Rylee provided a single each.

Richton 3, Enterprise 2 

The second game was similar to Friday’s game with Richton capturing a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.

Enterprise fought back to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth, but Richton would reclaim the lead in the fifth and held on for the win.

“We played well and fought extremely hard to get the win but just could not get the hits that we needed,” said Brister. “Overall, I am proud of our effort we just came up short at the end.”

Earwood was the winning pitcher for Richton with three strikeouts and no walks.

Trevor Freeman suffered the setback on the mound for Enterprise with two strikeouts and one walk.

Landon Gartman was the leader for Enterprise with a double and a single. Hunter Richardson and Brady Watts provided two singles each. Max Miller and Marvin Butler had single each.
