Lady Cobras collect two victories to capture division crown

The Wesson Lady Cobras captured the Region 7-3A fastpitch softball crown with a 9-1 win over the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs Tuesday and 15-1 victory over the Tylertown Lady Chiefs Wednesday night.

The Lady Cobras, coach by Michelle Nunnery, have received an opening round bye in Class 3A state playoff action this weekend. Wesson will face the winner of the Region 6 No. 2/Region 8 No. 3 in a best-of-three series. Game One will be on the road Tuesday. The Lady Cobras will host Game Two and Game Three, if needed, on Thursday. Game time and their opponent have not been set.

After two scoreless innings, the Lady Cobras’ offense caught fire in the third inning plating seven runs to grab a commanding 7-0 advantage. Wesson would score one run each in the sixth and seventh innings to extend its lead to 9-0.

The Lady Bulldogs managed to score their only run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Amber Brinson was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cobras with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Anna Claire Crowe was the leader for the Lady Cobras as finished 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple, a double and two singles. Shelbi Maxwell contributed a triple and a double. Harmoni Ashley and Cheyenne Gladden provided two singles each. Arie Douglas had a single.

Lady Cobras 15, Lady Chiefs 1 

The Lady Cobras dominated the Lady Chiefs in a five-inning contest. Wesson pound Tylertown in the first three innings to claim a 12-1 lead.

The Lady Chiefs scored their only run of the contest in the bottom of the second inning.

The Lady Cobras would finish off the Lady Chiefs in the fifth inning scoring three more runs to extend their lead 15-1 and held on for the win.

Laynee Crapps was the winning pitcher for Wesson with five strikeouts and no walks.

Harmoni Ashley sparked the Lady Cobras’ offense with a homerun. Katie McSweyn, Shelbi Maxwell and Arie Douglas fueled the flames with three singles each. Anna Claire Crow, Cheyenne Gladden and Brooke Jones provided a pair of single each. Laynee Crapps had a single.
