Diamond Wolves split with Coahoma

CLARKSDALE – The Co-Lin Wolves split a doubleheader with the Coahoma Community College Tigers winning the opener 8-5 and dropping game two 6-3 Saturday.

Co-Lin racked up eight runs on eight hits in game one. The Tigers scored early in the bottom of the first inning after a sacrifice fly gave them a 1-0 lead.
The Wolfpack took a 3-1 lead the top of the third inning. Reed Taylor led off the inning with a single. Jackson Twitty advanced courtesy runner Kewaun May to second on a ground out. Justin Oliver ripped a line drive to right that scored May to tie the game at 1-all. Austin Irby’s sacrifice advanced Oliver to second Champ Davison reached on an error by the Tiger’s second baseman scoring Oliver giving the Wolfpack a 2-1 lead. Davison advanced to third on a wild pitch and would score on another Coahoma error extending the Co-Lin lead to 3-1.
In the top of the fourth inning, Tyler McLeod led off the inning with a solo home run to left field to put the Wolfpack up 4-1.
Coahoma battled back in the bottom of the inning. The Tigers scored two runs to close the gap to 4-3.
The Tigers took a 5-4 lead in the fifth. Coahoma took advantage of a fielding error plated a run to tie the game. They took the lead on an RBI single by Adam Cook.
In the top of the eighth, Jeremy Moore’s one-out double to center field scored Justin Oliver and Champ Davison to put the Wolfpack up 6-5.
Co-Lin added two more insurance runs in the ninth. Tyler McLeod singled to right field. Matthew Mordecai followed with a single. Taylor reached on an error to load the bases. Oliver’s 2- RBI single to right field gave the Wolfpack an 8-5 lead.
At the plate for Co-Lin, McLeod led the way with a home run and a single for an RBI. Oliver had a pair of singles for three RBIs. Moore doubled for two RBIs. Adding support with a single apiece were Davison, Mordecai, and Taylor.
The Tigers posted just three hits in the contest. One each from Lowell Haney, Tanner White, and Adam Cook.
Tanner Jones earned the win for the Wolves giving up one hit, striking out two and walking one in 3 innings of work. Starter Miles Thomas went six innings allowing five runs (one earned) on two hits, struck out five and walked two.
Four different Tigers saw action on the hill. Dustin Allen absorbed the loss after throwing just 1 inning. He gave up three runs (two earned), on three hits, struck out two and walked one. Starter Kris Peet pitched six innings giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits, struck out three an d walked three. Preston Upshaw threw an inning striking out one and walking two. Also seeing action was Latalo Newsoom who gave up one run (no earned) on one hit.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead plating two runs in the first inning.
They extended their to a 4-0 lead in the third after another run scored on a single and a run was plated on a fielder’s choice.
Co-Lin got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning closing the gap to 4-2. Tyler McLeod led off the inning with a single. T.J. Wright reached on an error. Matthew Mordecai hit a sacrifice fly that scored Tyler McLeod. Jackson Twitty drove in courtesy runner Kewaun May with a hard hit single to right field.
Coahoma answered yet again in the bottom half of the inning with a double that plated one run. The fly ball to left gave the Tigers a 5-2 lead.
The Tigers scored their final run in the fifth inning on a wild pitch.
Co-Lin closed the gap to 6-3 in the top of the sixth. With two out, Mordecai doubled to right field. J.D. Evans reached base on an error that scored Mordecai.
Twitty led Co-Lin at the plate with a pair of singles (1 RBI). Mordecai doubled for an RBI. Hitting safely were Austin Irby, Jeremy Moore, McLeod, and Evans.
Landon Fullilove and Adam Cook led the Tigers from the plate with two hits apiece.
Austin Odom took the loss for the Wolves allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits, walking one and striking out two in three innings of work. Steven Ginn pitched the final three innings fiving up two earned runs on three hits, walking one and striking out one.
Dustin Allen threw the complete game win for the Tigers. Allen gave up three runs (one earned) on seven hits, striking out seven and walking one.
