Lady Cougars defeat Brookhaven

MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars defeated the Brookhaven Lady Panthers 12-1 in fastpitch softball action Saturday.
“This was a good team win,” said Lawrence County coach Meleah Howard. “We hit the ball well and Jordan did a good job on the mound.”
The Lady Cougars (4-3) will resume action Tuesday as they begin division action and host the Florence Lady Eagles. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Panthers (4-3) will also be in action Tuesday as they host the North Pike Lady Jaguars. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Panthers jumped on the Lady Cougars in the top of first to claim a 1-0 lead.
Lawrence County quickly responded in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs to take over the lead at 2-1.
The Lady Cougars would continue to add to their lead in the third and fourth, plating 10 runs to win the contest in five innings of action.
Jordan Harp was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cougars with 10 strikeouts and three walks.
Katherine Shell suffered the setback for the Lady Panthers with two strikeouts and one walk.
Zyon Feazell powered the Lady Cougars with a double and two singles. Elizabeth Smith and Sydney Pevey contributed a double and a single each. Josie Nations provided a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Maddux Kirkland, Abbie Errington, Tyranesha Davis and Jordan.
Tia Bussey recorded the only hit for the Lady Panthers at the plate with a single.
