Panthers place third South State powerlift

The Brookhaven Panthers finished third overall in the South State Powerlifting. The Panthers also had several members to qualify for the State meet next month.
Kenneth Bellamy placed first in 148-pound weight class with a total of 970 pounds. His personal best was the deadlift at 395 pounds.
Kenneth Dixon finished third in 181-pound weight class with a total of 1,190 pounds. Dixon’s personal best was the deadlift at 520.
Jay Trunner took home second in 198-pound weight class with a total of 1,190 pounds.
Stephen Springfield captures first place in 242-pound weight class with a total of 1,455 pounds.
Ben Springfield came in sixth place in the 242-pound weight class with a total of 1,090 pounds. His personal best was at squat with 430 pounds and deadlift at 450.
Kieran Williams took third in 275-pound weight class with a final score for 1,210 pounds. Williams’ personal best total on bench was 240 pounds and 500 pounds at squat.
Trace Clopton secured second in 308-pound weight class with a total of 1,295 pounds. Clopton’s personal best was in all his lifts – squat at 500, bench at 280 and deadlift at 515.
Jeffrey Johnson finished in fourth place in 308+-pound weight class with a total of 1,430 pounds. Johnson’s personal best was bench with 305 pounds and squat with 550 pounds.
“I’m proud of how hard the guys competed,” said Brookhaven coach Russ Britt. “We came one lift away from placing second in the South. I am happy to be taking Kenneth Bellamy, Kenneth Dixon, Jay Trunner, Stephen Springfield, Kieran Williams, and Trace Clopton to state next month. I would like to personally thank all the parents and fans who made the long trip to Gautier and to thank Mr. Todd Peavey for allowing the guys to work out at KDMC.”
The state powerlifting competition is April 16 at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
