Wesson splits with Florence

PEARL – The Wesson Cobras captured a big 71-61 win over the Florence Eagles Monday night in the Pearl Holiday Tournament.
In girls’ action, the Florence Lady Eagles soared past the Lady Cobras to claim a 82-42 victory.
Wesson will be in action today as the Lady Cobras battle Germantown in Pearl at 11 a.m. The Cobras will face SE Lauderdale at 12:30 p.m.
Wesson 71, Florence 61
Wesson claimed a 23-21 lead in the first quarter and outscored Florence 16-7 in the second to carry a 39-28 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles outscored the Cobras 33-32 but could not overcome Wesson’s lead.
Anthony Jones pumped in a game-high double-double of 34 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Cobras. Shemar Dickerson chipped in 13 points. Brian Thomas netted eight points. Will Hulon provided six points. Randy Hooker scored four points. Kendrick Brown and Jermaine James had three points each. Brown helped on the boards by gathering six rebounds.
Lady Eagles 82, Lady Cobras 42
The Lady Eagles dominated the Lady Cobras to secure a 37-24 lead at halftime and continued to hammer Wesson in the second half with a 45-18 explosion to secure the win.
Jashia Smith was the top scorer for the Lady Cobras with nine points. Carnesha Green contributed eight points. Alayshia Mims netted seven points. Aurianna Vaughn Jamiya Christmas provided six points apiece. Alaysha Vaughn scored four points and Tashay Glasper had two points.
