The Bogue Chitto man who was arrested after allegedly shooting at sheriff’s deputies earlier this month was released from the hospital Tuesday and is in Lincoln County jail on a $1 million bond.
Christopher L. Hamilton, 40, was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center after being shot by sheriff’s deputies. Hamilton allegedly shot at deputies when they tried to serve him warrants Dec. 3.
Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said Hamilton was being served a warrant for indictment for felony child abuse/battery causing serious injury and a warrant for a firearm owned by a convicted felon at 1:04 p.m.
Rushing said Hamilton, of 603 Lola Dunn Road, reportedly fired a rifle at officers after they made initial contact with him at the residence at 421 River Road Drive.
Deputies returned fire. Rushing said Hamilton was hit in the arm during the incident.
Hamilton’s charges include three felony counts of possession of weapon by a convicted felon, child abuse/battery causing serious injury and two felony counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
