Ronald Greer will step down as Wesson’s head football coach after four seasons in the job, he said Thursday.
Greer said that he would remain at Wesson as the athletic director, transportation director and assistant principal.
“I believe that this would be best for our program,” said Greer. “I was thankful to be given the opportunity to return and coach the sport that I love.”
Greer spoke with his team and encouraged them to do their best not only as an individual but also as a team.
“I have always encouraged my guys to be successful and do what is best for the team,” said Greer. “I believe that it is just time for a new breath of fresh air. I want to thank the kids and my assistant coaches for all their hard work.”
After making the decision Tuesday and posting the job opening on the Mississippi High School Activities Association website, Greer said he has already spoken with several qualifying recipients interested in the position.
Greer finished with a 15-29 record in his four seasons.
