Lady Cats dominate; boys fall

SUMMIT – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats captured their first win of the season with a 75-47 victory over the North Pike Lady Jaguars Tuesday night in high school basketball action.
In the boys’ game, the Bobcats suffered a tough 79-52 loss to North Pike.
The Lady Cats and Bobcats will be in action tonight as they host the West Lincoln Bears for four games starting at 4 p.m. with junior high action, followed by the high school games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
Lady Cats 75, Lady Jags 47
The Lady Cats came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter as they outscored the Lady Jags 25-10 and took a commanding 40-23 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Lady Cats continued their hot shooting streak and hammered North Pike with another 35-point explosion to collect their first win of the season.
“This was a big win for us,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “This was a team effort both offensively and defensively, but we still have to work to do to fix our mistakes. Overall, I’m very pleased with these girls and how they are playing.”
Zariah Matthews pumped in a game-high 27 points, 13 rebounds, eight steals and two assists to spark the Lady Cats. Shakiriana Jefferson provided 18 points, four rebounds and six steals. Terrah Nelson had 12 points and nine rebounds. Karlie Williams scored nine points. Christian Black and Lineka Newson had four points.
Rachel Thompson directed the Lady Jags’ offense with 17 points. Sarah Brock netted 13 points.
North Pike 79 Bogue Chitto 52
North Pike used its size advantage to beat the Bobcats as the Jags outscored the Bobcats 19-11 in the first quarter and cruised to a 41-18 advantage at halftime.
The Jags outscored the Bobcats 32-12 in the final two frames to collect the win.
“Our guys didn’t play their best game against North Pike,” said BC coach Mark Pitts. “We have to continue to get better in all aspect of the game.”
D.J. Nunnery was the top scorer for BC with 20 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Brumfield chipped in 13 points and had four rebounds. Darius Porter finished with five points. Brandon Blackwell had six points and six rebounds. Henry Thomas scored four points. Dee May and LaFredrick Dillon had two points each.
Jacob Deer was the top scorer for the Jags with 18 points. Christopher Wells netted 13 points. DeMario Wells contributed 11 points. Christian Leonard had nine points. Justin Griffin, LaTrevion Bantham and Mark Jones scored six points apiece.
