Sheriff: Report suspicious activity

Law enforcement officials are seeking information about three burglaries that have occurred over a two-week period in the same area.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department received a call at 2:45 p.m. Nov. 3 of a burglary on Mt. Zion Road. Sheriff Steve Rushing said a TV and a gun safe were stolen from the home. The back door had been broken into.
Also on Nov. 3, a burglary was reported in the same area on Newell Road. A gun and cash were stolen during the burglary but there were no signs of forced entry.
The third burglary in the area was reported on Nov. 6, but residents believe it happened sometime around Oct. 28. It also occurred on Mt. Zion Road, and cash and jewelry were stolen with no sign of forced entry.
Rushing said that area typically doesn’t see much crime. Three burglaries over a two-week period in the same area have deputies working diligently and looking at all possibilities to solve these cases.
Rushing said getting information from people who might have seen something would be a great help to ongoing investigations. The LCSD encourages anyone with observations of the area from about Oct. 28 to Nov. 3 or the present to call the office.
“Any help will be greatly appreciated. We’re asking for anyone who might have seen anything during the daytime during those date ranges to please call us,” Rushing said.
Other than general security measures like locking up valuables and the home, keeping a watchful eye and reporting suspicious activity, people and vehicles is the best offense against becoming a victim.
“Going forward, be aware of unfamiliar people or vehicles. If you see anything out of the ordinary, call us. Someone you don’t recognize riding twice through the neighborhood, call us,” Rushing said.
In cases where there are no witnesses and leads are lacking, searching for and recovering property is one of the main avenues for finding the source of the break-ins.
“Document your property, take photos of jewelry, keep serial numbers on your guns,” Rushing said. “Anything we get would be a great help.”
