Alcorn St. pummels Southern, 48-7

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Lenorris Footman came on for injured starter John Gibbs and accounted for six Alcorn State touchdowns as the Braves rolled past Southern, 48-7 Saturday at a rain-soaked A.W. Mumford Stadium.
Marquis Warford raced 78 yards for the game’s first score and Footman ran 44-yards for his first with 2:06 left in the first quarter. Footman found Jordan Payne from 29-yards out to start the second, staking the Braves (5-2, 4-1 Southwestern) to a 21-0 lead.
Lenard Tillery punched over from the 1 for the lone Southern (4-4, 4-2) touchdown in the second to make it 21-7 at intermission.
Footman scampered 17 yards for a touchdown and fired a 38-yard strike to Brandon Campbell in the third quarter to make it 35-7, then capped his day with touchdown runs of 30- and 60-yards in the fourth.
Footman finished with 274 yards rushing and was 3-of-7 passing for 71 yards.
