Funeral services for Martha Carolyn Gibson Lowe are Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Carolyn Webster will be officiating the services. Catchings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, from 12 p.m. until the time of services.

Mrs. Lowe, 77, of McComb, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015. She was born Nov. 9, 1937, to the late John C. and Gladys Craft Gibson of Magnolia.

She was a graduate of South Pike schools, as well as a Magna Cum Laude graduate from Mississippi College with a major in psychology and a minor in music. She is a lifelong member of The United Methodist Church, with her most recent church home being Tupelo First United Methodist Church.

Carolyn was best known as an accomplished pianist. She taught piano in Magnolia and served as both the district and the state chairperson for the National Federation of Music Club. She was also a graduate of the Sherwood School of Music in Chicago, Illinois. Carolyn served as organist and pianist in numerous churches throughout her life. In addition to the many years she was the organist at the Magnolia United Methodist Church. Carolyn also served as the organist for Magnolia Presbyterian Church; J. J. White Presbyterian Church, North McComb Baptist Church, The Episcopal Church of the Mediator/Redeemer, all of McComb; First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, Texas and others. It was through her music that Carolyn faithfully served the Lord.

She began a teaching career at South Pike schools as the teacher of music to the elementary and high school. From teaching she was able to pursue a career in the mental health field as a Childhood Intervention Counselor with Southwest Mississippi Mental Health.

In addition to music, her interests and hobbies included baking, flower arranging, studying a wide range of topics from the Bible and theological studies to science and history. Most recently she devoted herself to researching the genealogy of the Gibson family, which revealed that Tobias Gibson, the circuit riding preacher that first brought Methodism to Mississippi is family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; as well as her husband, Kenneth Arthur Lowe.

Survivors are her son, John Kenyon Bowman and wife, Jonni Katherine Bowman of Daytona Beach, Florida; daughter, Lynn Bowman Mote and her husband, W. Ansel Mote Jr. of Tupelo; one granddaughter, Emily Christine Mote of Tupelo; several much loved cousins; and her beloved four legged baby, Fancy.
