The next installment in a series of community meetings hosted by the Lincoln County chapter of the NAACP will take place Thursday.
The event will be at 6:30 p.m. at Living Word Faith Ministry Church on 791 Ozark Lane in Brookhaven. The focus is on political candidates running in Lincoln County elections. Refreshments will be served at the end of the meeting.
“We do it so the people can be educated on the candidates and become educated enough as to make a good choice and not one just because of a particular party affiliation,” Lincoln County NAACP Chapter President Bernetta Character said.
She said they’ve invited all the candidates and each candidate has a chance to come and speak. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions to candidates as well.
“People died for us to have the right to vote,” Character said. “It’s important not only to vote but to know how to vote.”
Character said the group did a similar initiative during the last election cycle.
“Wherever we can have it, we have it so everybody on each side of town can get a chance,” Character said.
She said they don’t want people to feel that one part of the county is spotlighted.
“Whether on the north side or south side, we want them all to feel like they’re equal,” Character said.
