“O” Foundation organizers are working on getting their second fitness event of the summer underway. The Lake Lincoln Walk-A-Thon is scheduled for Saturday starting at 6 a.m. and will feature three walks, each serving different needs.
The first event will be at 6 a.m. 5K run through the streets of the park.
The run will be followed by a second 5K walk-only race at 8 a.m. following the same path as the first and will be open to child participants to get them involved with the day’s fitness activity.
The last event will be a 5K group-walk starting at 10 a.m. The main focus of the 10 a.m. group walk is to support individuals new to exercise.
Event attendees are asked to bring grills, swimsuits and sneakers. At the event there will be a discussion about the foundation’s efforts to bring a public swimming pool to Brookhaven through community support.
“The efforts they’re putting forth bring together lots of different people in the community to create harmony,” Sam Sones of Farm Bureau, one of the event’s sponsors, said. “And I appreciate that.”
He said the event seems like a grassroots way for the community to get what it needs done, and they need local business to help support them.
“That’s where I come in,” Sones said. He said he will be donating tents, tables and other things to help with the event. He said he hopes that people will attend because it’s a great event.
Along with Sones, Hibbett’s Sports, Toyota of Brookhaven and Walgreen’s are also sponsoring the event.
