Union Church

July is the month for delicious vegetables and fruit. Bountifully supplied by friends and my tiny garden, I have enjoyed delicious blueberries, tomatoes and sweet corn. July is also the time for summer camp and revivals here in this part of our world. Great-granddaughter, Laila, spent last week at Garaywa attending GA Camp. Pleasant Hill in Copiah County is having revival beginning today. Evening services will be at 6 p.m. today and 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Bro. Wille Welch will be preaching for this revival.

Roger Dale Smith’s funeral was last week and burial was at Union Church Cemetery. Roger Dale is remembered dearly in our hearts as one with a great sense of humor and one who was an avid fan of the Ole Miss Rebels. He had requested a celebration of his life by having a big meal with chocolate cake. Ladies at Union Church supplied the meal following the burial and Roger Dales’ sister-in-law made the delicious chocolate cake. We will miss him, but know he is having the time of his life in his heavenly home. Another recent funeral was the funeral at the Presbyterian Church for Bruce Hawley last week. We are praying for these families as they grieve the deaths of their loved ones.

Also added to our prayer list is Olivia Gilbert, a 13-year-old with a spinal injury, Bertie Lee Coke in Saint Dominic’s Hospital and Bert Smith at University Hospital.

Enjoy these hot, humid days of summer, eat lots of wonderful food and remember: “Today is mine. Tomorrow is none of my business. If I peer anxiously into the fog of the future, I will strain my spiritual eyes so that I will not see clearly what is required of me now.” Elizabeth Elliot.

Have a happy week.
