Greeting Readers, Romans 8:6 speaks of God’s Control of mankind and it reads: “the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.” I hope that each of you had a wonderful, a safe and blessed Fourth of July. Special words of love and sympathy are extended to the following families who have lost loved ones and friends during this year.
To the family of Elige Robinson who was born June 28, 1926 to Lige and Callie Robison in Brookhaven. He married Anna Ree Simmons on April 15, 1948 and to this union one daughter was born, Gay Robinson Havard. He and his wife were married for 60 years and resided in Brookhaven. He and his family attended Bethel AME Church for many years where he served faithfully. He served his country well in the U.S. Army. His work history includes working at the Coca-Cola Plant, the Potter Company and Packard Electric, where he retired. His memories are forever cherished by his loving family and his friends who love him.
To the family of Lucille Hill Bates, born July 15, 1923 to Pearlie Hill and Annie May Hill in Lincoln County. She was the third child of 11 children born to this union. She attended Lincoln County Training School in Bogue Chitto. She was a faithful member of St. Mark M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Johnny Green. She worked at Brookhaven High School cafeteria as a cook and later at Fannie L. Mullins School as a teacher’s aide and as a cook. She retired from Mullins. She was married to the late Leroy Bates and to this union 10 sons and four daughters were born. Mr. and Mrs. Bates legacy lives on through their children, their 101-grandchildren, their 188 great-grandchildren and their 98 great-great-grandchildren. Lucille Bates memories and her love for others will forever be in the hearts and the minds of her family and friends who love her.
To the family of Chaka Jermaine Berry, born Aug. 25, 1995 to Elbert Berry Jr. and Cora Lee Washington Berry. During his early stages in life he joined Mt. Moriah M. B. Church in Union Church. He is a graduate of Jefferson County High School and furthered his education at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson and received an associate’s degree in automotive technology. He later became employed at Co-Lin as an auto mechanic Instructor. Jermaine was married to Latoya Jones and to this union two daughters were born, Jade and Melah. Jermaine is sadly missed and his fond memories will be remembered and cherished by his family and friends who love him.
To the family of Cloratee Webb Humphrey, born Oct. 3, 1932 in Copiah County to the late Embry Webb and Mae Rosie Webb. She attended Copiah County Schools and Alexander High School. She was a domestic engineer and a caregiver, who was dedicated to taking care of her family and many other children and friends throughout the years. She loved children and enjoyed giving her love and help to them. She was married to the late Solomon “Honey Babe” Humphrey and to this union six children were born. Cloratee was a former member of New Zion M.B. Church in Hazlehurst, and later moved her membership to Triumph The Church and Kingdom of God in Christ, at Caseyville, Mississippi. Cloratee Humphrey, a loving mother, a terrific grandmother, a good neighbor, a wonderful cousin and a dear friend, is truly loved and missed by each of them and her fond memories lingers on and on!
The Eva Hall Harris, Progress, Friendship and Lincoln County Training Schools’ Alumni extends special love, gratitude and deep admiration to all former principals, teachers and administrators of each of these schools’ for jobs well-done in the educational field. The alumni thank God for what each of you has done to make our lives better in so many ways throughout our childhood and even today as adults. In our school days as students, you all served as our parents as well as our mentors when we were away from our biological parents and we will forever be grateful to each of you. Today, we salute the ones who are still with us and the memory of others who has served their time on this earth and have entered into their heavenly home realm.

There were two years, then they narrowed it down to many months and now there are only a few days to the count-down of the start of the Eva Hall Harris and Lincoln Country Schools Alumni School Reunion. This grand event will take place from July 10 to 12 with the Legacy Program kicking the event off on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln County Civic Center. You are invited to come out and be a part of this event as former students are inducted into the Hall of Honor.
