Bond for a Lincoln County man accused of murder was reduced from $1 million to $500,000 Monday.
Fred Hill, who remains in the Lincoln County jail, was charged in the shooting death of Timothy Green, 31, earlier this year. Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said the April 2 shooting likely stemmed from a dispute between the suspect and victim. Green was found dead at the scene on Spur Lane when the sheriff’s department and ambulance arrived. Hill is charged with murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
During a court hearing presided over by Circuit Court Judge David Strong, Hill’s council approached with a motion to reduce his bond to an amount that could be paid by the family.
Hill’s council stated that the 24-year-old, of 1515 Spur Lane, is a native of Lincoln County with much of his family still residing in the city of Brookhaven. His council also said that Hill has two daughters with one more child on the way, and it was important for him to be able to continue supporting his family.
The state recommended to Strong that Hill was a danger to the community and if the bond is reduced to make it a cash bond.
Strong said that he was not concerned with Hill’s flight risk because he was a life-long resident of the county. He granted a bond reduction to $500,000 with conditions. If bond was met for Hill he would have to live in the city of Brookhaven with his family, he could not travel within a one-mile radius of where the crime was committed and he would have no contact with the victim’s family or anyone associated with the case.
Hill’s case has not yet been sent to the grand jury, and he has not been indicted.
