Five people were injured in a single-vehicle accident on I-55 in Lincoln County Sunday afternoon.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M responded to a call a little after 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon of a wreck near mile marker 33 in which a van overturned. Confirmed reports said the 2008 white Chevy Express rental was carrying seven passengers.
MHP Trooper Brandon Fortenberry said the van ran off the road to the left, overcorrected and crossed the lanes back toward the right before making contact with a ditch.
The driver, Joe White, of Tennessee, was not injured. Five of the passengers were transported with minor injuries; three were transported to King’s Daughters’ Medical Center and two were transported to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. It is unclear which of the other six passengers were not injured.
The passengers were Harold McKing, of Georgia; Christopher Atkins, of Georgia; Sabrina Albritton, Tynisha Atkins, Gary Barbee and Laquan Imin. Unconfirmed reports say the passengers were co-workers at Wal-mart Distribution Center.
