PRENTISS – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars were on the road Tuesday afternoon facing the Prentiss Christian Saints and brought their bats with them jumping out to an early first inning lead and cruised to 11 – 0 victory.
Senior right-hander Zach Dickerson handcuffed the Saints from the beginning striking out six Saints batters and gave up just two hits. “I was proud of the way we came out and played today,” said BA Head Coach Casey Edwards. “We could have easily tossed it in after some close district losses, but our guys are playing with a lot of pride.”
At the plate the Cougars were led by Heath Hickman and JP Jackson with two hits each. Bryce White doubled, Alex Smith, John Coleman, Zach Dickerson, Carter Culbertson and Madison Smith each singled to round out the BA hit parade. Hickman also had three RBI’s to pace the Cougars.
BA is back in action Thursday evening in a schedule change from Friday to complete their district series with the Saints. JV first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 pm. The Cougars have a matinée scheduled Saturday with Centreville Academy visiting Harold Williams Ballpark; that JV / Varsity affair starting at 1 pm, weather permitting.
