DECATUR – The Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves dropped a division doubleheader on the road Wednesday as they were swept in Decatur by the East Central Lady Warriors.
East Central 10, Co-Lin 0 (5 Innings)
Not much went right for the Lady Wolves in game one as Co-Lin only managed to produce three hits and saw East Central jump to a 5-0 lead after the first inning.
Breanna McKenzie (2-for-2) and Payton Sheffield hit safely for Co-Lin. East Central scored ten runs off of seven hits (two doubles, one homerun).
Rheagan Welch took the loss in the circle after giving up seven runs on six hits in 1.1 innings.
“We were never in the game,” said Lady Wolves head coach Allen Kent. “We came out flat. I’m searching for some leadership right now,” said Kent.
East Central 2, Co-Lin 1
Co-Lin lost in spite of getting a 3-hitter from freshman pitcher Lucy Lewis. Lewis, a native of Denham Springs, Louisiana, allowed no earned runs while striking out one and walking one. Co-Lin had three errors in the game.
“We’ve got to make routine plays on defense and today we didn’t do that,” said Kent.
East Central went up 1-0 after a Co-Lin error plated a run. Co-Lin tied the game in the top of the fourth inning when freshman Brittany Barbay hit an RBI single that scored Savannah Johnston. Barbay finished 3-3 at the plate. Jessica Crum and Julian Johnson had a hit apiece. Co-Lin outhit East Central 5-3. East Central took their final lead in the fifth inning when another Co-Lin error plated another Lady Warrior run.
Co-Lin (9-9, 3-7 Division) is scheduled to host Pearl River on Saturday in Wesson for a divisional doubleheader beginning at noon.
