VICKSBURG – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats defeated the St. Aloysius Flashes Friday night 70-54 in the boys’ consolation game of the Region 7-1A Tournament.

In the girls championship contest, the Lady Chiefs of Pelahatchie defeated the Lady Cats of Bogue Chitto 44-34.

Bogue Chitto will be in action Monday and Tuesday as they prepare for their run in the Class 1A State playoffs. The Lady Cats will host the opening round of the state playoffs Monday against French Camp, starting at 7 p.m.

The Bobcats will have to travel Tuesday as they face Montgomery County at 7 p.m.

Bobcats 70, Flashes 54 

The Bobcats entered into the contest needing a much, needed victory to help boost their confidence before starting the playoffs. The Flashes were just coming off a tough battle against Natchez Cathedral the night before.

In the first quarter, the Bobcats started off slow with couple no scoring offensive plays as the Flashes had a fast start to claim a 4-0 lead. BC would finally get on the board with a three-point basket by D.J. Nunnery. The Bobcats would trailed the Flashes 10-9 after one quarter of action.

In the second quarter, Nunnery would continue his hot shooting streak behind the three point line and nailed two treys. Dakota McGary would also contribute in the second quarter with six points. Bogue Chitto would outscored the Flashes 23-15 as the Bobcats would go into the locker room with a 32-25 lead.

In the sSecond half, Bogue Chitto came out of the locker room and had a four minute dry spell, but the Flashes could take advantage of the situation to catch up. The Bobcats ended up scoring 21 points before the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter the Bobcats managed to hold and increase their lead with a 17-point performance as some key players that stepped up and played ball. Matthew Black was a big contributor with a double-double performance Friday night scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Offensively for the Bobcats, D.J. Nunnery lead the Bobcats in scoring with 18 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Jeremiah Perkins also had double-double night with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Dakota McGary chipped in with 17 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Tyler Brumfield scored five points, three rebounds, and two assists. Brandon Blackwell added two points and had six rebounds. Will Fauver had 2 rebounds.

Lady Chiefs 44, Lady Cats 34 

In district championship action the Lady Chiefs of Pelahatchie defeated the Lady Cats of Bogue Chitto 44-34. The Lady Cats started the game off with a great run, when Zariah Matthews hit a big three point basket in the first quarter. BC would claim a early 7-0 lead, but the Lady Chiefs would rally back to claimed the lead in the second quarter as BC trailed at halftime by one-point.

In the second half, The Lady Cats would come out of the locker room and have a low scoring three quarter as the Lady Chiefs managed to maintain the lead. In the fourth quarter, Terrah Nelson would help keep the Lady Cats in striking distance after hitting a big two-point basket, but BC would run out of time in their comeback.

Offensively for the Lady Cats, Zariah Matthews led the team with 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Christian Black contributed 11 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Lauren McCaffrey gathered five rebound. Terrah Nelson scored two points and had five rebounds. Karlie Williams added five points. Lineka Newson netted two points. Taneshia May had two points and four rebounds.
