Panthers, Lady Bulldogs claim wins

NATCHEZ – The Brookhaven Panthers and the Natchez High Lady Bulldogs were victorious in their Region 6-5A battle Friday night in Natchez.
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Bulldogs knocked off the Lady Panthers to win 63-37.
In the boys’ game, the Panthers climbed back into the win column after thumping the Bulldogs 69-46.
Brookhaven resumes action Tuesday as they travel to Ridgeland to take on the Ridgeland Titans for three games. The junior varsity boys in tip off at 5 p.m., followed by a pair of varsity games.
Natchez 63, Brookhaven 37
The Lady Bulldogs of Natchez came out and quickly set the tone of the contest in the first as Natchez claimed a 20-11 advantage.
In the second quarter, Natchez continued to roll as they increase their lead with a 12-8 run to carry a 32-19 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Panthers 31-18 in the final two quarters to collect the win.
Erreshia Chatman was the top scorer for Natchez with 14 points. Ereria Williams and Rashenae Rice powered the Lady Bulldogs offense with 12 points apiece.
Kynitria Hill directed the Lady Panthers offense with 14 points and four rebounds. Chantel Quarles contributed eight points and grabbed three rebounds. Arnancy Arnold helped on the boards with four rebounds and scored five points.
Brookhaven 69, Natchez 46
In the boys’ game, the Panthers (19-3, 4-0) quickly overpowered the Bulldogs of Natchez in the first quarter of action to lead 16-9.
In the second quarter, Brookhaven continued to smoother the Bulldogs with their defensive pressure to increase their lead with a 18-13 run to lead at halftime 34-22.
In the second half, Ole Brook and Natchez scored 16 points apiece in the third quarter before the Panthers exploded in the fourth quarter with a 19-8 run to stay unbeaten in Region 6-5A action.
The Panthers were led by Garrick Smith and Damarius Brooks with 11 points each, and Alex Benson added 10 points.
Micheal Morris and Ty’Ran Newman led with 10 points for the Bulldogs.
