West Lincoln knocks off Amite Co., girls fall

LIBERTY – The West Lincoln Bears and Lady Bears traveled to Liberty Friday night for a hard fought contest versus district rivals Amite County. They secured a split over the Trojans in Region 7-2A action.
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Bears fell to the Lady Trojans 50-25.
In boys’ action, the Bears overcame a late second half rally from the Trojans to prevail 51-46.
West Lincoln returns to action Tuesday as they travel to Enterprise Tuesday for another district contest. The varsity games begin at 6 p.m.
Amite Co. 50, West Lincoln 25
The Lady Bears (5-13, 1-3) faced a quick and larger Lady Trojans in girls basketball action Friday night. West Lincoln fell behind early in the contest and trailed 22-8 at the half.
The Lady Bears returned from halftime and cut down the lead to 24-14 before Amite County stretched the lead winning the game 25-50.
The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Jana case with 14 points followed by Layton Sills with six points and Alli Mullins with five points. Case and Demesha Deer each had five rebounds.
West Lincoln 51, Amite Co. 46
Coach Lane Young’s Bears (7-11, 2-2) led 9-5 after the first quarter. West Lincoln scored 24 points in the second quarter over 10 points scored by the Trojans closing the half with a 33-15 lead.
In the third quarter, the Trojans rallied back and outscored the Bears to trim the lead down to two points with the score 35-33.
Amite county maintained momentum in the fourth quarter and managed to briefly take the lead before West Lincoln turned up the heat on defense and capitalized on Trojan turnovers to regain the lead and secure a 51-46 win.
Ronnie Edwards led the Bears with 26 points including four three-pointers. Keshaun London netted nine points. Edwards also led on the boards with 11 rebounds. Lofton Sills pulled down seven rebounds.
