Wesson tames Puckett Wolves

PUCKETT- The Wesson Cobras traveled to Puckett to compete with the Puckett Wolves Tuesday night in high school basketball action.
The Lady Cobras overcame the Lady Wolves in overtime when freshman Jamiya Christmas made the winning shot to end the game with a final score of 60-59.
In the boys game, the Cobras also ended the night by defeating the Wolves by controlling the scoreboard with a final score of 74-48.
The Cobras will host the Hazlehurst Indians Friday night. The varsity teams begin play at 6 p.m. for the girls and the boys play at 7:30 at the Wesson Gymnasium.
Wesson 60, Puckett 59
The Lady Cobras defeated the Lady Wolves Tuesday night in overtime with a 60-59 win. Top Lady Cobra player, sophomore Aurianna Vaughn, scored a total of 16 points which included two 3 pointers, and had 2 steals and 6 rebounds.
Junior Jashia Smith was another top scorer for the Lady Cobras with 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals. The Lady Cobras were way off base in free throws and only averaged 4/13 from the line.
Top player for the Lady Wolves was junior K. Melvin who topped the scoreboard with 40 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal. Sophomore T. Willis scored 9 points and had 3 rebounds and 1 steal. The Lady Wolves averaged 14/22 in free throw action.
Wesson coach Rusty Newman commented on the win, “This was an exciting game. I’m proud of the girls for fighting hard and getting the win. ”
Wesson 74, Puckett 48
The Wesson Cobras outplayed the Puckett Wolves Tuesday night with a final score of 74-48. Top Cobra players included junior Anthony Jones who scored 27 points with 10 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist and senior Dartavious Dixon who scored 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. The Cobras were 17/27 in free throws.
The Wolves top scorer was Z. Sutton who had a point total of 14. The Wolves had an average of 7/17 in free throw action.
“The guys played with a lot of intensity,” said Newman. “Our defense led to easy offense and tonight was a good team win for us.”
